Capstone Project: MYI Mentorship Program: Incarcerated youth from ages 15-17 who stay at Manson Youth Institution and York are not receiving the appropriate educational or vocational services to become productive and successful upon release. Many of these youth will be grown adults once they are released. We believe that while they are incarcerated, we need to simulate an environment that mirrors the real world that will better prepare them to become law-abiding citizens once they are reintegrated back into society.
The Tow Youth Justice Institute: Transforming Youth Justice: A Leadership Development Program provided me with the opportunity to work with individuals who are passionate about making positive changes in the juvenile justice system. Through our time together in my cohort, we discussed how each of the organizations contributes to assisting our youth with the transition from lawbreaking to law-abiding members of society. The information presented at each meeting continued to fuel my passion for making a difference for our child in any way that I could. Being a part of the leadership program is an experience I truly enjoyed and will never forget. Our youth need passionate leaders who believe in them. I am happy to say that the Transforming Youth Justice: A Leadership Development Program continues to provide the tools and resources that passionate leaders within the juvenile justice system. These tools help leaders assist troubled youth with changing the issues that plague those who are involved in the order in some capacity.
