“Children are no longer going to jail because they didn’t go to school. Families are no longer deemed the enemy, they are brought in to collaborate.” Representative Toni Walker describes as she spoke about the recipient of this year’s inaugural Trail Blazer Award and a special citation from the JJOPC.
At this year’s Pathways to Success Conference, we introduced the very first Trailblazer in Youth Justice Award which recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and innovation in advocating for and supporting young people within the justice system. This award celebrates leaders who have pioneered new approaches, initiatives, and policies aimed at reforming youth justice, and ensuring fairness, rehabilitation, and opportunity for all. Honorees of this award are inspiring change-makers, driving positive transformation in the lives of youth and fostering a more equitable and compassionate society.
“ I am here today to talk about my friend, my collaborator, and the man who has always helped me in understanding how our system can change for our children. William H. Carbone began his journey of justice for our children 23 years ago in the judicial system. He was also the first director of the court support services division, and he helped us understand where we fit.” Walker Continues.
“Bill you are an amazing man and you have made us such a wonderful state. People from all over come to us to talk about what we do here in CT, and the root of it is Bill Carbone, his research, his studies and his commitment to our kids and In recognition of your ground breaking contributions to the development of the Tow Youth Justice Institute, we honor you with the inaugural Trailblazer Award.”
