Taurien Sowell Sr’s background is in law enforcement where he served as a local Police Officer for the town of Stratford, CT before moving onto his new profession. Taurien is currently a supervisor for the State of CT- Court Support Services Division Adult Probation, where he has been employed for the last 16 years. Taurien obtained his MS in Criminal Justice from Central CT State University and started his own personal training brand (SoWellFit). Taurien is a certified personal trainer who serves and looks to inspire adult women and young adult children. In the past Taurien has served as mentor for a troubled youth male, helping him navigate life by teaching him life skills.
Taurien has never been afraid to lead and finds joy in it when equipped with the right tools. From 2006- 2008, he served as an assistant football coach for Central CT State University and coached youth football for the Westport, CT PAL league in 2009. Taurien was born in Bridgeport, CT where he grew up learning and developing a love for the game of football, ultimately leading him to a full scholarship to play football at the University of Connecticut where he obtained his BA in Sociology. His grandmother, loss of his parents at an early age and the game of football is what molded him into the man he is today. Taurien has always been in the business of assisting others and still works in the human services field where he has been able to assist others, whether it was teach basic life skills or just teaching youth both male/female at the various group agencies how to navigate life’s struggles.
Taurien currently lives in a one family home with his wife and children. One of Taurien’s biggest goals in life is to build a life directed towards financial freedom for both his family and him. This is why Taurien surrounds himself with those knowledgeable in real estate and continues to educate himself on reading various literature surrounding business, real estate, and self-motivation. Another goal that Taurien has set out for himself is to get promoted again at his job in which he’ll be tasked with running his own office. Taurien is a firm advocate for education. Whether, educating someone about physical health or informing one on how probation supervision functions, in the end you can only go so far without it.
Taurien is a member of Omega Psi Phi incorporated organization and is aware of the saying “if you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together”. Anything worth achieving in life, you must have good work habits. Taurien considers himself a hard worker and during his time playing football at the University of Connecticut he received the Kozlowski award for being courageous, hardworking, and productive.
Taurien enjoys working out primarily because of the effects it has on his mental health. In addition, Taurien values health, energy, consistency, teamwork, and most of all faith/spirituality. In the end, Taurien realizes whatever he ends up doing he wants to be a role model for his family and let them know even when mistakes happen anything is possible because it’s not how you start, but rather how you finish.
