Capstone Project: CT Transitional Programs for Special Education Students: The School to Prison Pipeline has been purported as a significant influencer in the disproportionate number of males of color who enter the juvenile justice system. Studies show a disproportionate number of young males of color entering into the juvenile justice system compared to youth of other demographic groups. Statistics show a disproportionate number of young males of color who receive special education services in public schools compared to members of different demographic groups. This data presents a question: Is there a correlation between the number of young males of color who receive special education services and those who enter the juvenile justice system as status offenders before graduating high school?
