Program Director, Domus Kids @ Hartford Juvenile Detention Center
Graduate of both Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) and University of Saint Joseph (USJ), where I studied Special Education, Educational Leadership, and Education). I also obtained Connecticut certification in Administration and Supervision (092) and Comprehensive Special Education (K-12). I have worked as an educator for 13 years, seven as a classroom and special education teacher, and five years as an Administrator at Hartford Juvenile Detention Center (HJDC). It was my wish as a student to work in a detention center where I can help young people, as the character of Michelle Pfeiffer in the movie, Dangerous Minds. My wish came true after I graduated with a special education degree from USJ, West Hartford, and became a Special Education Teacher at HJDC. I have been an advocate for students as the principal of the education program at HJDC and a member of the JJPOC Education Committee. I work collaboratively with Domus HJDC and Court Support Services Division (CSSD) staff to ensure that our students receive equitable and high-quality educational services as their peers outside the detention center.”

I better understand the Juvenile Justice System and how advocacy efforts are reached. To have a greater understanding of the youth, you first need to be passionate, dedicated, and supportive of the process. It truly takes a village to serve the youth!”
